Hat-titude : Our Favorite Fall Accessory

November 22, 2016

One accessory that I have always admired most is the woman or man who rocks a hat to complete an ensemble. In thinking about the fall trends for hats this Fall, this piece is giving a little history to the 2016-2017 fall winter hat trend we see on the runways and also on the streets. Brimmed hats: the Fedora, bucket hats, pork pie hats, and british boilers are a few of the hats forecasted for the Fall are officially everywhere.

The Fedora was popular as early as 1891 and was popularized by Sarah Bernhardt in the play titled Fedora where Ms. Bernhardt wore a brimmed hat as a cross dressing heroine. Fedora’s typically have a wider brim while small brimmed hats similar to the Fedora are called Trilbies. Guiseppe Borsalino established Borsalino a hat company in 1857 and is one company that became well known for the manufacturing of the Fedora.

The bucket hat was originally made from wool felt or tweed cloth and were traditionally worn by Irish farmers and fishermen as protection from the rain.

Favorite Trends: Hair of the Night

Viola Davis in a white Max Mara and Downton Abbey’s Laura Carmichael were divine in their angelic attire. They are both scene stealers here, not for really nice dresses, but for there gorgeous hair last night. Davis’s beautiful ‘do was my favorite of the night. It reminded me of The photo shoot she did a few years back for the LA Times where she skipped the wig and went au naturale I love her with or without magic hair, but thought she looked especially fabulous last night. And Carmichael stood out for me because she was going for the effortless hair look that others do, but she made it work and looked great. I always say people want to go effortless, but even that needs some effort to really work. No shade!

Golden Globes Red Carpet Wrap-Up: Favorite Trend and Favorite Fashion Houses

February 11, 2015

It’s hard to believe the Golden Globes have come and gone already. Here we recap our favorite trend and favorite fashion houses on the red carpet Golden Globe’s night.

Favorite Trend: White Gowns

White was a major trend on the GoldenGlobes red carpet, and came with lots of variations. Here are three looks that employed the trend successfully. Sienna Miller in Miu Miu. Loved the embroidery and beading on this gown, as well as her fabulous bob. Salma Hayek in an off-white Alexander McQueen with a dark belt at the waist. And last, but not least, Kate Hudson in this sexy Atelier Versace. Kate wins the trend for the night in my book.

Fashion Houses of the Night: Zuhair Murad & Atelier Versace

On a red carpet night as big as this one, Fashion houses battle it out for who put the best looks on the RedCarpet in a single night. There are two houses I thought shared that distinction. The first was Zuhair Murad, who dressed Jennifer Lopez and Chrissy Teigen in these gorgeous gowns. Zuhair Murad always seems to have the looks that effortlessly combine glamour with sexy.

In the battle of the fashion houses, Atelier Versace gave Zuhair Murad a run for their money by dressing the largest number of women well on the red carpet in a single night. Here are three examples, all in Atelier Versace: Jessica Chastain, Amy Adams, Kate Hudson and others.
