Foot sprain/spur means I’m stuck in a surgical shoe for a little while. Ugh. Never fear, I had to get out a glue gun, sequins, and some pearls for a make it work moment. We always gotta find a way to say a little something for fashion, dear hearts. *cackles*
… and it’s mine, all mine! just arrived from a recent shopping trip at Bergdorf Goodman.
Gardenias are a total Glamourtunist. They’re my favorite flower. So elegant, sophisticated, and refined. Jazz singer Billie Holiday, and the designers Coco Chanel and Patrick Kelly also loved gardenias. What flower do you most love or associate with fashion and style?
One day I’ll own and slay life in a pair of Helmut Lang jeans just like this! Werk! I want the vintage kind. By vintage I mean from the 90s. I remember being a teenager and thinking that Helmut Lang Jeans were the best thing ever, so that’s my obsession with one from that era. And also, the thought of the 90s as vintage. Ugh. Way to feel ancient!
Fashioning my own and my sweeties closet’s today. Custom men’s shirts and tunics. Fabric selection duty at Zag West in Indianapolis. Decisions, decisions.
I’m so in love with this Stella & Dot necklace I bought at a boutique near my home. I already have the look it should go with in mind. It is a bit shorter than I need, but a quick run to the jeweler for an extender will fix it right on up!
Celebrating one of my favorite style icons, the incomparable Ms. Cicely Tyson. These spectacular photos of Ms. Tyson were taken by legendary photojournalist Eve Arnold in 1968. This kind of work was also pivotal to the struggle for civil rights that occurred which was not only a struggle happening as it pertained to segregated public accommodations, laws, and politics, but also representationally in terms of style and fashion grounded in Black/Africanist aesthetics as exemplified by the refrain “Black Is Beautiful!” And it is.
Chile’ I woke up this morning feeling like Vanity. Pun intended. Today is a day for inner and outer fierceness. In other words, WERK!
Wearing one of my favorite pieces of jewelry today. A mixed metal necklace with flat stones. The stones all look like rose quartz and moonstones. I’m going to pair it with my Balenciaga “work” bag (which one of my friends calls my “WERQ!” bag — I love that!) and then off to class I go. Whenever I wear it I pull it out of the closet and shout as did the effortlessly elegant Myrtle Snow in “American Horror Story: Coven,” “BALENCIAGAAAAA!” It cracks me up every time.
A lovely gift of art for a fashion lover are illustrations. The two above were holiday gifts I received this year. Both illustrations are by Parisian artist Nicholle Kobi (@nikisgroove on Instagram) . The first is titled “Fashion and Curvy” and I LOVE it. I just found the most perfect frame. The second illustration is called “Black Parisian Style.” It reminds me of the aesthetic and style of my brilliant, chic, and fashion loving friend Jennifer, who is a total glamourtunist whether in the US or on the streets of Paris!
