There were definitely moments of Missed Glamourtunity on the Golden Globes red carpet. I say Missed Glamourtunity because I believe everyone has the raw materials to look amazing day to day, we just don’t always step up to the plate or make all the right choices, but we’ll get it right the next go around … I hope.
I have already told you what I thought of Alan Cumming‘s Missed Glamourtunity in his monochromatic suit, and for the women the Golden Globes were definitely a Missed Glamourtunity for Claire Danes, Patricia Arquette, Kristen Wiig, Keira Knightley, Maria Menounos, and Jennifer Aniston. Let’s start with Danes, Arquette, and Wiig.
Danes wore Valentino, and it was just too busy. Would have opted for a beautiful minimalist Calvin Klein or Narciso Rodriguez, both of which she has worn before, to complement her lovely and non-fussy hair styling here. Arquette’s Escada is ill fitting and looks wrinkled. The one-shoulder draping here also makes her look like she emerged from a time capsule from Golden Globes night five years ago. Happy for her much deserved win, however. And Kristen Wiig is giving me “Sister Wives: LA” in this look. It looks sad, ill fitting, and where are here jewels? Sorry, ladies.
Keira Knightley is in Chanel and just has too many embellishments and things happening in the dress. Hair and make-up are divine, but this garment doesn’t work for her in this context. I LOVE Chanel, but am beginning to think no one can pull it off on the red carpet. If anyone has examples of where it was done well, I’d love to see as a Chanel fan. Surely there are some. Maria Menuonos gets the “ma’am, what were you thinking?” award of the night. The color is no bueno. The beading in the pattern also no good. Looks like a figure skating costume, unfortunately. Love the hair and make-up. But no. Jennifer Aniston doesn’t really look too bad. Other fashion critics said it was bad, but I think it’s just ok. She’s on my list because I am tired of seeing her in these dour dark colors ALWAYS. I really wanted to be surprised by her last night. Whoever styles her for mag covers should style her for red carpet because she killed it on the Harpers Bazaar cover recently. This look just doesn’t work.
